The creation of this photo album comes from my personal need to highlight the thoughts and faces of contemporary LGBTQ+ Greek's using the medium of photography and focusing on everyday people.
Observing the projections of LGBTQ+ people in various audiovisual media or photographic works in Greece, one can hardly find representations of them that highlight their thoughts. Of course there are photographic projects and audiovisual works that aim to present the world of the LGBTQ+ community, the photographic project "This is Us" tries to highlight the daily life of its people by projecting not only them but also their thoughts. Bringing all these people together creates a presentation of LGBTQ+ people who need to be heard with the right media and the right way in contemporary Greece.
The portraits presented in the album's pages were created in a studio in front of a white background which was used to cut out anything from invading the photo frame. Thus the viewer's gaze focuses on the faces depicted, and devotes the necessary time to read the words of the subject being presented in each image.
The aim is to raise public awareness for community issues and to open a dialogue on our human rights, bringing lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans and queer people to the front, illuminating their personal stories and experiences, thus creating the effort for discussion.
